Meet the Owner
“Hi, I'm Ava and I have a pet treat company, Ava’s Pet Palace, which focuses on organic, non-GMO pet treats for dogs and cats. I started by business at just 8 years old and I’m 13 now! But I wrote my business plan at 6! I actually still have the drawing! I love to make videos about animals, volunteer to help animals and pretty much do anything that has to do with animals!
I started my business because I wanted to do something that could help animals. I didn't know what options I had as a kid, but I was determined to find out. I asked my parents to start a pet business for 2 years before they finally took me seriously lol. My mission is to educate pet owners about pet treats and help them explore options that simultaneously promote animal health and taste-bud satisfaction. My current treat selection is just the beginning for Ava's Pet Palace!”
What's been your proudest moment, or greatest achievement as a business owner?
“I appreciate all of the big moments I’ve had so far as an entrepreneur! Getting into my first retail locations in 2019, winning Young Entrepreneur of the year this year or going viral in early June. Those are definitely some of my proudest moments. It really showed me that hard work can pay off!”
A Recipe for Success!
“I'm just a regular kid that lovesssss animals! And my family is just as into animals as I am! They play a big part in my success! My parents have always told me that I can do whatever I want as long as I work hard and am passionate about it. My mom is my biggest help when it comes to the daily tasks for Ava’s Pet Palace. She helps me with the entire treat production process from buying ingredients and other supplies, to helping me with all of my social media stuff and customer service. My dad helps a lot with my long term vision. And my little sisters help with packing orders!”
Tell us how your pet treats are unique.
“My treats are special because they’re made in small batches, with ALL organic ingredients by people who really care about animals! I also provide my customers with a sense of pride, confidence and reassurance of being good pet parents by buying their furry friend nourishing treats with high- quality ingredients. I offer a friendly and personable social media presence for those who appreciate great customer service too!”
Do you have a pet of your own? What are their favorite treats?
“I love Pumpkin and Lacy so much! Pumpkin is my 13 year old male orange tabby. We adopted him when I was 2 years old! He sleeps with me every night and likes to cuddle in my hair whenever he can! Lacy is our 5 year old Min Pin! We adopted her too, 4 years ago! We started with fostering her and fell in love! Her and Pumpkin have a love hate relationship, but it’s definitely more love than hate! They both also go crazy for my Salmon Snacks!”
What obstacles have you faced as a business owner?
“Some obstacles I’ve faced as a business owner are some bias based on my age. I know I’m young, but I’m determined to be the best business owner possible. I try to get better each day. I’m also more recently running into some obstacles as my business is growing. The transition from a small business to a large one feels like a long and involved process.”
If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
“There are many things that I don’t know yet, but I will continue to work hard. I believe that hard work pays off. And I practice the advice that I’m so often asked. If you reach a bump in the road don’t give up, keep going, keep pushing forward and eventually you’ll reach your goals. There is only one “you” and you matter, your ideas matter and what you want to create for your life matters.”
